Children With Attention Deficit Disorder
Children with attention deficit disorder are those who suffer from serious and constant difficulties in definite areas, such as lack of concentration, impulse control and hyperactivity. It is not easy for such children to inhibit their natural responses due to which they have problems at home, school, learning ability and socializing with people.
ADD i.e. Attention Deficit Disorder is the term that has been initiated to describe the characteristics of children with attention deficit disorder more noticeably. ADD is of two kinds: Attention Deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and Undifferentiated Attention Deficit Disorder (UADD). Children with UADD are quiet and inactive, and are easily unnoticed, therefore with greater possibility of educational failure rather than ADD.
Symptoms can be seen in children with attention deficit disorder at an early age, normally before the period of seven years. With a few signs, it is very complicated to differentiate between a normal child and a child with ADD. However, if numerous symptoms are observed while at work, play or home, then the child is definitely suffering from ADD. If there is an extreme change in his/her behavior, it should not be taken lightly.
The factors that cause ADD in children are listed below:
• Environmental factors
• Sugar and food additives
• Brain injury
The detection of the above causes by scientists has eradicated vast burden of guiltiness amongst parents, who have been blaming themselves to be responsible for their children’s behavior.
Children with attention deficit disorder show both negative and positive symptoms. The three main negative traits are impulsivity, inattention and hyperactivity. Children suffering may be impulsive and hyperactive but not inattentive; inattentive but not hyperactive or impulsive; or all three.
Poor attention and lack of concentration are the main inattentive signs of children with ADD. Such children are attentive only to things that they enjoy doing, but if repeated they lose interest. Children with attention deficit disorder who show hyperactive signs are always moving. They may attempt to do many things at the same time and it is very difficult for them to sit motionless. Weird, needy, disrespectful, over emotional and moody are the impulsive traits of children with ADD.
Children with attention deficit disorder face a lot of challenges but also show positive signs. These children are flexible, spontaneous, creative, enthusiastic and full of energy. Many children with attention deficit disorder are pleasingly or academically gifted, as ADD has nothing to do with intelligence or aptitude.
The medications available to the children with attention deficit disorder include ADHD treatments, medical treatments, non medical treatments, ADHD monitoring, alternative therapies, and natural remedies. Hale and hearty food is a must for such children. They should be served with healthy and a balanced diet rich in proteins. Once the actual problem that the child is suffering from has been recognized, no diagnosis or medical checkup is required. Collectively working on the strong points and trying to find innovative solutions would possibly be the best option for treating such children.
